Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Health and Counselling, the Clinic Nurse will work with the collaborative healthcare team to provide healthcare to the campus community.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Using a population health approach, provide individualized health care and health promotion.
  • Assist with navigation of the health care and health insurance systems both public and private.
  • Provide vaccinations as required.
  • Report statistics and evaluations of care plans directly to the director of health and counselling in a timely manner.
  • Make referrals to outside agencies as necessary.
  • As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the registered nurse may be required to provide other nursing duties as required and should be flexible.
Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Police and vulnerable person’s safety check.
  • Minimum of five years of recent nursing care experience.
  • Good public speaking, presentation, and health education skills.
  • Ability to work with clients of various ages, socio economic status, ethnic backgrounds, and sexual orientations using a supportive non-judgmental approach.
  • Knowledge of STI education, and treatment an asset.
  • Comfortable discussing pregnancy termination and contraception.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with clients in stressful situations. Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Physically able to perform all assigned tasks.
  • Ability to handle periods of intense activity.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, priority-setting and time management skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed and able to exercise independent nursing judgement in a clinical situation.
  • Proven experience in dealing efficiently, professionally, and collaboratively with various professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence with education, communication, counseling, and crisis management skills in person and on the phone.
  • Experience and knowledge in the provision of trauma-informed care.
  • Experience and knowledge in the provision of harm-reduction approaches to care.
  • Knowledge of community-based support services.
  • Experience and skill working with collaborative partnerships.
  • Experience working with EMRs.
  • Mental health experience and asset.
  • Master’s degree in nursing, education or public health is considered an asset.
  • Family Practice Nurse Certificate is considered an asset.
